Music
Branston Intermediate is a school of opportunities, and the area of Performing Arts is no different.

At Branston, we have specialist teachers and classrooms specifically for teaching music, dance & drama. Our music room has 20 keyboards, 15 guitars, 2 bass guitars, a new set of drums, and many percussion instruments. Classes are split once a week to be taught in music for half a year, and dance & drama for the other half year. The groups swap at the end of Term 2.
Each student at Branston learns a musical instrument (usually keyboard and/or recorder). We also offer specialist teaching in keyboard and guitar for half a year free of charge and in school time.
As well as every child being taught in the performing arts, we have opportunities for students to join various performing groups, or create their own.
Choir
Every student is given an opportunity to join our school choir. Our choir performs at the Christchurch Schools Music Festival every second year, 'Kids in Town' at the Art Gallery every year, the 'Kids for Kids' concert with Suzanne Prentice when it is held in Christchurch, and our own Branston Showcase. The choir is also often asked to perform in many local community places and events.
Band
Our specialist music teacher selects a group of children each year to form a band. Musicians and singers make up this group, and they often accompany the choir. This year, our band played all of the music for our school musical production.
